Poetry in Motion Series:

June 14 at the Blue Agave
Chryss Yost leads workshop
“Repetition, Rhythm, and Rhyme: Using Formal Techniques in Your Poetry.”

SBWC’s Weekend of Poetry workshop leaders have cooked up a great series of one-day
poetry workshops this summer and fall. We’re calling the series Poetry in Motion, and it started May 17 with a workshop led by Barry Spacks. On June 14, Chryss Yost leads a workshop called, “Repetition, Rhythm, and Rhyme: Using Formal Techniques in Your Poetry.” On Sept. 13, Perie Longo leads a workshop entitled, “The Pleasures and Pitfalls of Narrative Poetry.” The city of Santa Barbara’s poet laureate, David Starkey, will lead the final workshop, “At Your Best: Cultivating Your Poetic Strengths,” on Oct. 18.
All the workshops will emphasize crafting and revising your poems, and they will be held in a lovely, private room in an intimate restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara called The Blue Agave. The workshops are limited to no more than 20 participants and pre-registration is required.
Cost is $120 per workshop, which includes lunch at the restaurant. You can sign up for
individual workshops, or buy the remaining series of Poetry in Motion workshops for a
discounted rate of $300. For more information, email us call (805) 964-0367.

Here’s the tentative schedule:

9 – 9:30 a.m. – Registration and greetings
9:30 – 10:30 – Poetry reading and discussion of poetic practice, craft and creativity.
10:40 – 11:40 – Small group workshops (up to three depending on size of group)
